If your Phantom reports an error with your proxy, here are some common problems to help you figure out what's going on and the solutions to help you overcome them:
- Special characters in your proxy login information
- Geographic location of your proxy's IP address
- Your proxy is not working
- Proxy error with Facebook Phantoms
1. Special characters in your proxy login information
Make sure your proxy username and password do not contain any special characters such as "@" or "#", as this will cause the Phantom not to work. This means you should not use an email address as your username.

2. Geographic location of your proxy's IP address
When selecting your proxy, make sure to choose a geographic location close to your own. If it is not close enough, the proxy will not be fulfilling its purpose in locating your Phantoms' activity closer to you, and social networks may still become suspicious of the Phantom's login attempts.
3. Your proxy is not working
It may be that your proxy simply doesn't work. You can test the proxy in your browser to check whether or not this is the case by simply adding the proxy to your computer's network settings and then trying to access the Internet to test the connection.
(If you're using Firefox, check your browser settings to make sure it auto-detects your system proxy settings.)
Open System Preferences and go to 'Network':
Click on 'Advanced...':
Then click on the 'Proxies' tab:
Choose 'Web Proxy (HTTP), then enter your proxy’s address (which should look something like this: fr.proxymesh.com:12345) and your login details:
Once you've clicked 'OK', don't forget to also click 'Apply' to save these settings!
Then go to 'Network & Internet':
Click on the 'Proxy' tab and choose 'Manual proxy setup', switching 'Use a proxy server' to 'On'. Then enter your proxy’s address (which should look something like this: fr.proxymesh.com:31280):
Don't forget to hit Save!
When you connect to the internet, a pop-up window will ask for your proxy login details:
4. Facebook's new layout
Facebook recently changed the look and configuration of their browser version, meaning that our Facebook Phantoms will not work as they currently are. If you're using a Facebook Phantom and finding unexpected errors, we suggest changing your Facebook account layout to the classic version.
This is an easy switch to make, done by clicking the arrow on the upper right corner of your Facebook account and selecting 'Switch to classic Facebook'. The change can be reverted at anytime.
Luckily, this is a temporary issue - Buster is working hard to update all of the Facebook Phantoms to make them compatible with the new layout!
