An access or membership error ("You're not part of the group you're trying to scrape," "You're not an admin of this company page," "You're not attending the event you're trying to scrape," "Could not invite your connections to attend the event") means the account connected to your Phantom doesn't have the required access to the target page, group, or event. PhantomBuster can't scrape or interact with content it can't access. To fix it: join the group, request admin rights on the company page, register for the event, or become the organizer, then relaunch your Phantom with the correct account connected.

Why you're seeing this

Your automation may show one of these messages:

  • "You're not part of the group you're trying to scrape"
  • "You're not an admin of this company page"
  • "You're not attending the event you're trying to scrape"
  • "Could not invite your connections to attend the event"
  • Or a similar access or membership message from another platform.

All of these mean the same thing: the account connected to your Phantom doesn't have the required access to the target page, group, or event. The Phantom can't scrape or interact with content it can't access.

Before you start: check which account is connected

Many access errors come from running a Phantom with the wrong account connected. For example, your personal account when the group or event access sits on your work account.

  1. Open your Phantom's setup and look at the account shown in the connection step.
  2. Confirm that this is the account with access to the target group, page, or event.
  3. If it's the wrong account, switch the connection. See How to Connect LinkedIn Accounts to PhantomBuster or How to Connect and Manage Non-LinkedIn Social Media Accounts.

How to fix it

If you're not a group member

The connected account isn't a member of the group used as input. PhantomBuster can only scrape content from groups the connected account has joined.

  1. Go to the group on the relevant platform, LinkedIn or Facebook.
  2. Request to join the group and wait for approval if it is a closed group.
  3. Once approved, relaunch your Phantom.

If the group is private and your membership request isn't approved, PhantomBuster won't be able to scrape it.

If you're not a company page admin

The connected account doesn't have admin rights on the LinkedIn company page used as input. PhantomBuster needs admin access to perform actions on a company page.

  1. Request admin access for the connected account.
→ See LinkedIn's official guide: Request admin access to a LinkedIn Page.
  2. Once admin rights are confirmed, relaunch your Phantom.

If you're not attending the event

The connected account isn't registered as an attendee of the LinkedIn event used as input. PhantomBuster can only scrape event data for events the connected account is attending.

  1. Go to the LinkedIn event page and click Attend to register the connected account as an attendee.
  2. Once registered, relaunch your Phantom.

If the event is closed or invitation-only and the connected account can't register, PhantomBuster won't be able to scrape it.

If you can't invite connections to an event

The connected account is neither the organizer nor a registered attendee of the LinkedIn event, so the invite button isn't available. The event may also have expired or been canceled.

  1. Check that the event is still active: Go to the LinkedIn event page and confirm it hasn't expired or been canceled.
  2. If the event is active, make sure the connected account is either the organizer or a registered attendee.
    • To attend: click Attend on the event page.
    • To organize: the connected account must have created the event.
  3. Once access is confirmed and the event is active, relaunch your Phantom.

Frequently asked questions

Why does PhantomBuster need access to the group, page, or event?

PhantomBuster acts through the account you've connected. If that account can't see the content on the platform itself (because it isn't a group member, page admin, or event attendee), the Phantom can't access it either.

Can PhantomBuster bypass group or event privacy settings?

No. PhantomBuster only has the same level of access as the connected account. Private groups, invite-only events, and admin-only pages can't be scraped unless your account has been granted access.

Do I need to be the group admin to scrape it?

No, being a member is enough for groups. Admin access is only required for company page actions.

My account is already a member, admin, or attendee. Why am I still seeing the error?

Either the wrong account is connected to the Phantom, or your status hasn't propagated yet on the platform. Verify which account is connected in your Phantom's setup, and wait a few minutes after joining or gaining access before relaunching.

Can someone else on my team run the Phantom if they have access?

Yes. Connect their account to the Phantom (or share via magic link for LinkedIn) and the Phantom will run with their permissions.

What if the event has expired?

You can't scrape or invite connections to expired or cancelled events. Check the event status on LinkedIn before relaunching.

If the error keeps showing up

If you've confirmed your access and the error persists, get in touch with our Customer Care Team.
