When setting up Phantoms, you may wonder what the difference is between the "Number of results per launch" and "Number of results per search."
When setting up most Phantoms, you'll be asked for a search input. Using LinkedIn Search Export as an example:
You have three options for filling in this field:
- Give a single search term (e.g. "Haunted House Manager").
- Use a LinkedIn search URL (e.g. https://www.linkedin.com/jobs/search/?geoId=92000000&keywords=haunted%20house&location=Worldwide).
- Use a spreadsheet URL (usually Google Sheets or another Phantom's output CSV) containing multiple LinkedIn searches/search criteria:
If you're using a spreadsheet containing multiple inputs, the following fields will be important to you:
Your Phantom needs to know how many results you want to collect per launch (the amount the Phantom scrapes each time it runs) and per search (the total amount you want for each of your input search criteria).
Let's say you want 20 results for each of your different LinkedIn searches (e.g. you want to find 20 Phantom Executive Officers, 20 Bloodcurdling Sound Effects Producers, and 20 Spooky Data Analysts as shown in the spreadsheet above), making a total of 60 results overall, but you want the Phantom to extract 10 results during each launch - this means it will take a total 6 launches for the Phantom to complete its job. In other words, these settings are especially useful when you schedule several automatic launches.
It's important to spread the extraction of all the results across multiple launches as opposed to doing it all in one, especially in cases where you're extracting thousands of results, in order to respect LinkedIn's (in this example) rate limits. The Phantom will work through each search in the order they appear in your spreadsheet, and will automatically start from where it left off during its previous launch each time.
N.B. In this example, we used LinkedIn Search Export, but the same logic will apply with Phantoms such as LinkedIn Auto Liker, Google Maps Search Export, Instagram Hashtag Search Export, Instagram Follower Collector, Twitter Tweet Extractor, and many more!
