Overview

With the PhantomBuster MCP server, you can connect, configure, launch, and stop any Phantom straight from your AI chat window — in plain language, without ever opening the PhantomBuster dashboard. This guide walks you through connecting the MCP to both Claude and ChatGPT.

The MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard that lets an AI assistant talk to an external service through one secure connection. PhantomBuster's MCP server exposes your workspace as a set of tools your assistant can use, so you can ask it to run a Phantom, pull results, or build a lead list, and it does it for you.

Before you start

Everything starts from one connection URL, which acts as the gateway into the MCP. You'll find it (and the full documentation) on the PhantomBuster Developer Hub, under MCP server > Connecting to the server:

This URL can't be opened in a browser, visiting it directly returns an "unauthorized" message. It only works when you add it inside Claude or ChatGPT as a connector. Connect to a workspace where you're an owner.

Connect the MCP to Claude

  1. Open your settings. In Claude, click your name in the bottom-left corner and choose Settings.
  2. Go to Connectors. Under Customize, open the Connectors tab. This page lists all of your MCP connectors.
  3. Add a custom connector. Click the + button, paste ,https://mcp.phantombuster.com,, name it PhantomBuster, and click Add.
  4. Log in and authorize. Claude opens a PhantomBuster sign-in so it can link to your workspace. Log in, choose the workspace you own, and allow access.
  5. Refresh the tools list. If the connector shows "This connector has no tools available" right after connecting, click Refresh tools list. The tools then all appear: fetch, launch, stop, delete, and more.

Connect the MCP to ChatGPT

The process is almost identical, ChatGPT just calls them Apps instead of Connectors.

  1. Open Settings > Apps. In ChatGPT, open Settings from the bottom-left, go to the Apps tab, and choose Create app.
  2. Create the app. Name it PhantomBuster, paste ,https://mcp.phantombuster.com, as the Server URL, leave authentication on OAuth, tick "I understand and want to continue", then click Create.
  3. Authorize access. Authorize ChatGPT and connect your PhantomBuster workspace. The app then shows as connected, with the URL and OAuth details.
  4. Refresh to load the actions. If the developer tools don't appear, click Refresh, all of the actions load right away.

The #1 thing to remember: on both Claude and ChatGPT, if you don't see any tools after connecting, refresh the tools list. The tools load on a refresh once the connection is made.

What if my organization blocks custom connectors?

Some organizations don't allow adding custom connectors. In that case, wait for the official PhantomBuster listing in the Claude connector store, which is submitted and awaiting approval. Once it's live, you'll be able to add PhantomBuster without the custom-connector step.

You're ready, what to try first

With the MCP connected, you can drive your whole workspace from the chat window. Try asking your assistant:

  • "List all my Phantoms and tell me which ones ran today."
  • "Launch my LinkedIn Search Export on this search URL and let me know when it's done."
  • "Pull the results from my last Profile Scraper run and summarize the job titles."
  • "Find emails for the leads in my latest list, then save them back to PhantomBuster."
  • "Stop the Phantom that's currently running."

Your assistant discovers the current list of available tools automatically once connected, so the capabilities grow over time without you changing anything.
