If the Sales Navigator Search Export Phantom returns a "Your Sales Navigator URL is too long" error, it means your search URL has too many filters encoded in it for the browser or Phantom to process. The fix is simple: save your search in Sales Navigator and use the shorter saved search URL in your Phantom setup instead.

If your Phantom crashes during export rather than showing a URL error, see How to Fix the "Page Has Crashed" Error. If you're getting inaccurate results, see How to Fix Inaccurate LinkedIn or Sales Navigator Search Results.

Why you're seeing this

Sales Navigator encodes every filter you apply directly into the search URL. The more filters and parameters you add, the longer the URL gets.

Browsers have a maximum URL length (roughly 2,048 characters, though it varies), and once the URL exceeds that limit, the page won't load correctly and the Phantom can't run.

How to fix it

Save your search in Sales Navigator

This is the recommended fix. Saving the search replaces the long filter-encoded URL with a shorter saved search URL.

  1. Open Sales Navigator and run your search as usual.
  2. Click the Save search button in the Sales Navigator interface.
  3. Copy the shortened URL from the saved search.
  4. Paste this saved search URL into your Phantom setup.

Using saved searches not only shortens your URL but also makes it reusable and easier to manage. You can save up to 50 lead searches and 50 account searches in Sales Navigator.

Reduce the number of filters

If you've already used all your saved search slots, try removing some of the less critical filters to shorten the URL. Focus on the filters that matter most for your targeting and remove any that are nice-to-have but not essential.

You can always run a broader search and then filter the exported results in your PhantomBuster Leads database or in a spreadsheet after export.

Frequently asked questions

Why does adding filters make the URL longer?

Sales Navigator encodes every filter parameter (location, seniority, industry, keywords, etc.) directly into the URL. Each filter adds characters, and complex searches with many parameters can easily exceed the browser's URL limit.

How many filters is too many?

There's no exact number. It depends on the type of filters and the length of the values (e.g. a list of 20 specific companies will add more characters than a single industry filter). If you're getting this error, you've crossed the limit.

Does this error affect LinkedIn Search Export too?

It's much rarer on standard LinkedIn because the search interface supports fewer filters than Sales Navigator. But it's theoretically possible with very complex Boolean searches.

What's the maximum URL length?

Most browsers cap URLs at around 2,048 characters, though some handle more. The Phantom uses a browser engine with similar limits, so if the URL is too long for a browser, it's too long for the Phantom.

Can I still edit a saved search after saving it?

Yes. Open the saved search in Sales Navigator, adjust your filters, and re-save. The URL stays short regardless of how many times you update the filters.
